Clay Chalkville Friday Night Football vs. Hoover

If you plan to purchase a ticket for the game Friday night, you should do so as soon as possible. Here's I understand - Hoover initially received 1,000 tickets and have sold all of those. The word is that Hoover will be coming to Clay tomorrow around noon to pick up most, if not all, remaining tickets. Tickets are $7 per person. I'm not trying to alarm anyone or say that if you don't buy a ticket now, you won't get one. But I don't want anyone to miss out either!

Since the game is at Clay and a capacity crowd is expected, help is also needed in the Concession Stand. If you are interested in helping, please contact Bill Kennedy at whkennedy23@yahoo.com

Go Cougars and Cougar Band!

note from:"CLAY-CHALKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC BOOSTERS

CLAY-CHALKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL
ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB

Game day is getting closer and the excitement is building. The Cougars had a good practice yesterday and are now zeroing in on their plan of attack. The Cougars will be ready to play and give us all they’ve got. The players are turning the table or challenging us as parents, friends and supporters, and asking, “Are we going to give the Cougars all we’ve got?” They are begging for a huge crowd of blue and white, to be present Friday night and be ready to scream and yell even louder than we did last Friday at Bob Jones.

Also, there will be a “Cougar Walk” at the Trussville stadium at 4:45 p.m. Friday night. We are asking all Cougar fans to be at the stadium early and line up as the busses pull in to welcome and fire up the Cougars as they arrive and get ready to play. Anybody having connections with the band, cheerleaders, blue men, students, etc…. that can let them know about the Cougar walk and see if they can show up, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks again for your support.

Congrat's To Kathryn Hancock and Jonathan Holladay

10/4/2010 Clay-Chalkville students Kathryn Hancock and Jonathan Holladay represent eight JefCoEd schools at AP Celebration

Clay-Chalkville students Kathryn Hancock and Jonathan Holladay represented all AP JefCoEd students for the dramatic increases on AP tests since 2008 which was celebrated at Ramsay High School on September 29. The JefCoEd eight schools more than doubled their numbers of passing scores on AP exams since joining the program, A+ College Read initiative. The initiative is funded by a $13.2 million grant from the National Math and Science Initiative, a public-private partnership. Funding came from the Governor, the State Department of Education, the Alabama Power Foundation, The Alabama Math, Science and Technology Education Coalition, Regions Financial Corporation, and the ExxonMobile Corporation.

The students represented all AP students from eight county schools whose scores increased 135% since 2008. Scores on AP tests taken in math, science, and English increased from 203 in 2008 to 478 in 2010. Congratulations all teachers and students!

CCHS SPRING TRIP

September 9th, 2010

To: Band Students & Parents

From: J. Randell Wallace

RE: New York Trip

Students and Parents:

We are in the process of planning our spring band trip to New York City. The dates of the trip are April 26th-May 1st, 2011. We will depart on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. and return Sunday morning. We will be attending two Broadway musicals and seeing the sights of Manhattan – the Statue of Liberty, the Twin Towers Memorial and Ground Zero, the Empire State Building, Central Park, a day of shopping downtown, and possibly the Blue Man Group or a Mets baseball game. The band will be performing at the Statue of Liberty. This is a wonderful trip and believe it or not, it is very educational.

There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. Our regular band booster meeting is a 7:00 p.m. We will discuss the trip after our regular meeting. By meeting on the same night, we won’t take up too much of your time.

Thanks for your patience, cooperation, and continued support of the Cougar Band program. God bless all and God bless America.

Off and Running

WOW, can you believe we have already had a football game and a night in the "stand"? I want to thank everyone who gave their time to work in the concession stand last Friday night. It is still a long season ahead and a lot of opportunities to contribute to the Clay Chalkville Bands. I need everyone to mark their calendars for Friday, September 3. That is the biggest night in east Jefferson County....that right, Clay Chalkville vs Hewitt Trussvile. We are hosting a tailgate party prior to the game. We will be selling food and drinks along with having a bouncy house for the kids. In order to pull this off, we will need lots of help. So, please contact us if you will be available to help.

I look forward to seeing everyone at Minor on Friday night.

GO COUGARS!!!!

Here We Go!

It was great see everyone who attended our first band booster meeting last night. I am looking forward to another great year.

The Jefferson County Health Dept. was at the meeting last night and conducted food handling/safety training. You must have this training in order to handle food in the concession stand. The training is good for 2 years so, if you had the training last year, your card is still good. If you don't have a food handler's card, you have another chance to get the training in September. We will remind everyone again as the date approaches.

For those who were not at the meeting, here are a few highlights of what is up coming in the next couple of weeks.

School Registration is next Wednesday and Thursday, July 21 & 22. Make sure you come by the boosters table and pay your membership fees and band fees. These fees helps the band throughout the year.

Band Camp starts on Wednesday, July 21. We need a couple parents there each day to help in case the students gets sick or needs assistance with something other than music or marching. We only need parents there while the students are outside.

We are planning to have homemade ice cream for the marching band after practice on July 22. If you can make a freezer of ice cream please contact one of the booster officers. The ice cream will need to be at the school by 4:45 on Thursday, July 22.

Our next Band Boosters meeting will be on August 9 at 7:00 pm. Please make plans to be there.

Tennis Balls Any One???

With coming into the new band room, we now need as many used or new tennis balls as we can get. We need to put these on the feet of all of our chairs before they go on the tile in the new room. We have 81 student chairs with 4 feet each, so we need at least 324 tennis balls. So if everyone can come up with a few....a few of you call local country clubs to donate, we ought to be golden.

Thanks.
